The raidz stripe width limits in disklayout are somewhat arbitrary. They're based on traditional lore and oriented toward higher performance instead of capacity. Increasing the upper limits will allow us to experiment with a different tradeoff oriented toward capacity instead of performance. This could be beneficial for our large storage servers where performance is not as important. None of the default behavior will change, but now that we have explicit control of stripe width, it would be useful to allow wider stripes than we have allowed in the past.
